Barack Obama came to Colorado today and went to civic park in Denver in the morning and came  to Colorado State to speak about early voting, higher education and improving the economy for local homegrown businesses. As it turns out, 45,000+ people came to attend the Speech that was done on the Oval of campus. A beautiful backdrop full of luscious fall colors and very “Colorado”-y look and feel. In Fact Obama thought it was very beautiful and that “he should of attended school here.” The crowd was a mix of college students, Fort Collins Residents, and overall Democrat and Barack Obama Enthusiasts.

The speech was pretty standard. He took jibs and jabs at John McCain counteracting McCains false accusations. This morning on the Sunday Politco show, “Meet the Press” McCain boldy stated that Baracks economic plan was similiart to Bush’s and that he would fix it. “Obama was quick to counteract that and point out the flaws in John McCain’s thinking. His first issue of course was Early Voting. He advocated early voting and make sure that the Fort Collins’ Residents casted their ballots. He pushed it because he said “it was easy, its fun and you feel morally superior.” He also went to make a joking comment against people who wait till November 4th calling them “lazy procastinators.”

His next big push was about the economy and pulling small local businesses out of the economic crisis. He bashed McCains trickle down policy and said that his own economic plan would get tax rates lower than during Reagan’s presidency. Obama sees economic crisis not only hurting wall street, but hurting “main street” as well. He also said that we need to restore opportunity on main street. His economic plan wants to give tax credit to companies for new employees create 5 million green jobs and promote small local business ventures. Something that is important to Fort Collins economy.

Obama lightly touched on healthcare, and then went on to his other main issue, Education. He wants students to be able to compete with the world and aims to do that by providing a world class education. That includes, new teachers, early education funding and providing governement money to people to go to college. Obama also promoted people working in Civil services saying “If you invest in America, America will invest in you.” He encouraged students to become involved in the military or peace corp or something in their community. Regardless, just be involved.

Obama finished his speech discussing the importance of being one people and one voice. He said his most infamous phrase, “We are not a red America, we are not a blue America, we are the United States of America” to cheers and praise.

Obama’s speech was strong, to the point, and roughly 40 minutes long, but the icing on the cake to this WHOLE event was the music. Oh the music, including Yellowcard, Angels & Airwaves, U2, but also some Funky music put into the mix. Not only did it hype up the audience, but it expressed Obama’s message of hope change and a better future. Overall it was a great speech and a historic moment for Colorado State University and all those that were in attendance.
