A review of French Miami’s self titled debut
by Justin Weber

On its self titled debut, French Miami combines a volatile mixture of raw emotion and a keen sense of melody in an album that is a strong representation of the energy that the band creates live.

With a foreboding intro track and the incendiary “God Damn Best” following, French Miami couldn’t do anymore to get noticed. “God Damn Best” just may be the best track put forth on this debut. It’s distilled awesomeness with a dash of experimental pop. It opens with a ornamental guitar hook followed by powerful vocals and ends with a jab at Fergie’s “My Humps”. The album is only four minutes old and I’m already in love.

Listening to the next to tracks, it seems like French Miami had lied to me in the beginning. “Science Fiction” and “Mr. Moment” are drenched with synth and smoother vocals. Yet, even with this sudden change, the three-piece band pulls it off. This is a band that can evolve.

The rest of the album plays with darker tones and sways between the heavier and more relaxed personalities of the band before they blend both into “S.F.O.”

French Miami has become a favorite in the San Francisco underground. This self released album is demanding attention.
