Are you sick of the Mtn. West not getting any love come football season. Well conference brass has apparently had enough and is pushing for an automatic bid into the BCS. This is coming after a season in which three Mtn. West Schools finished in the top 25 of all three major polls (AP, USA Today and BCS). Which is more than the Big East with two and the same as the ACC and the Pac 10 with 3 apiece.
But MWC fans don’t get to worked up yet, there are several arguments going against the MWC that will be tough to overcome.
1. All MWC haters will start out by saying we are an inferior conference with small recruiting bases that could not stand up to a SEC or Big XII schedule. This argument is rooted in ignorance and makes no sense when you look at the numbers. (It’s the same reason people in the Big Ten think there conference is still relevant: ignorance)
2. Hopefully the University Presidents can use the logical portions of their brains to look through that first argument but here’s the case that is really gonna hurt the MWC. As P-Diddy or Puff or whatever he calls himself once said, “It’s all about the Benjamins.” Cold hard cash is what’s going to sink the MWC’s argument. Unfortunately the current members of the BCS are raking in tons of dough from their TV deals and other endorsements. Teams that played in BCS games this year each recieved a $17 million dollar payoff. And guess what they don’t want to share.
3. The last reason is simply that all those major conferences are just scared that the MWC is legit and that one day the National Championship Trophy will be headed back to the Rocky Mountains.
